Barry Bateman
Biographical Summary

Barry Bateman is a senior strategic change consultant and executive coach with deep expertise in leading and managing large-scale business transformations and operational improvement projects. In both internal and external consulting roles he has led or consulted on over 20 major transformations within Fortune 500 companies, the federal government and multinational/multilateral institutions. His industry consulting experience spans across several industry groups, including financial services, insurance, consumer products, electronics manufacturing, media and entertainment, and telecommunications.

Barry began his career in 1980 as Director, Organizational Planning for Sperry Defense Systems where he helped plan and implement a long-term change strategy. After leaving Sperry (Unisys) he was a Partner at Block -Petrella -Weisbord for five years consulting to clients such as IDS/American Express, GE Aerospace, Pitney-Bowes and Carefirst on the design and implementation of high performance organizations. In 1994 he was engaged as an independent consultant by the World Bank to help lead a five-year organizational design and transformation effort and from 1998 to 2003 he was Director, Strategic Change at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he led several large-scale strategic change projects at Delta Airlines, AIG, Intelsat and other companies. In 2001 he was the organizational consultant to the Chief Financial Officer at Highmark Insurance, who was later named CFO Magazine's ‘Transformation CFO of the Year’ in 2002.

Barry’s clients are typically senior executives, leaders of business lines or major functions. He recently completed an engagement as a senior adviser and lead consultant to the Department of Interior’s National Business Center Acquisition Directorate, where he oversaw the merger of five separate acquisition organizations into Gov-Works, a large shared-service acquisition organization operating as a fee-for-service franchise fund under enabling federal legislation. He is currently advising senior executives at a Big Four consulting firm on a long-term effort to improve the quality of their overall engagement management process.
